Celebrate 1838 Rules

Purpose of Celebrate 1838: Educate visitors about life in Metamora in the early 1800s through demonstrations of period arts and crafts, educational demonstrations, and reenactments.

1.         This is a juried event. All applicants will be juried by committee and will be notified of their acceptance or nonacceptance by mail. Celebrate 1838 is NOT a trade show or Flee Market and is not for a craft distributorship. Celebrate 1838 is a venue that is designed to highlight the work of artisans and legitimate craftspeople who are in possession of booths during the event. See the Celebrate 1838 application.

2.         The Celebrate 1838 jury will only accept handcrafted work which has been made by the demonstrator. No commercially-made items may be exhibited.

3.         All work must be original and hand made.

4.         Demonstration hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Please be demonstrating and explaining your craft between the above hours. As we want to educate the public on early American History, we need to have you demonstrating as much as possible. (Of course with the logical time outs for necessary breaks)

5.         All exhibits must be set up and ready to view by 8:30 each morning.

You may not start packing up to leave until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

6.         The Celebrate 1838 jury will monitor the event and reserve the right to ask for the removal of any objects that do not conform to the rules or to which appear to be commercially manufactured.

7.         The Celebrate 1838 jury, the Town of Metamora, and the State Department of Natural Resources are not responsible for lost or stolen property. It is your responsibility to secure your property.

8.         All participants will dress in clothing appropriate to the early 1800s era.

9.         All tents, awnings, tables, and displays will be appropriate to the early 1800s era.

10        All tools used should be tools that would have been used in the early 1800s era.

11.       All tent poles, tables, chairs, tools, and items for sale must remain within the demonstrators assigned space.
